A Biograhy of Lee Lai Shan

Lee Lai Shan is a famous, hard-working and outgoing woman who is good at windsurfing. Some people named her "Queen of the wind". She was born in Hong Kong in 1970. She was a Cheung Chau original inhabitant.

When she was young, she wanted to be a policewoman till she grew up. But, when she was twelve years old, she started learning windsurfing from her uncle Lai Root.

A few years later, Lee Lai Shan won her gold medal at the World Windsurfing Championships in 1993. At the age of 26, she won the gold medal in the Olympic Games. This is the only gold medal Hong Kong has ever won.

After that, she won the gold medal in the Bangkok Asian Games in 1998. When she was thirty-one years old. She won the silver medal in the Ninth National Games in Guangzhou. Also, she won the gold medal in the Busan Asian Games in 2002.

Lee Lai Shan won the gold medal in five events. Besides, she won the silver medal in four events. On 26th January, 1999, she married the famous sailing athlete Sam Wong. In 2004, she temporarily withdrew her sporting career. She is now a full-time housewife and mother. She served as the first torchbearer in the Olympic Torch Relay in 2008. She took the torch from the hand of the Chief Executive.

She had many honors so that many people admire and envy her. People regard her as a target.
