Easter Journal

Easter Journal

21st April, 2011

Today was the first day of Easter holiday. I was so lighthearted and cheerful after I left Forest School at five o’clock in the afternoon with my friend, Sue. We were talking about where we would go during the holiday. Sue said she would like to go to the castle in the middle of the forest. However, I thought it was too frightening for me. Then, Sue asked if we could go under the sea. I said I could not swim very well. After that, she thought about going shopping in the centre. We had no money, however. I wanted to visit Mr. Lee, the oldest man in the whole forest but Sue thought it would be boring. We started arguing. We were angry with each other so we went home sadly. My home was on a tall tree. It was a huge tree house. I climbed on the rope to the house.

“Hey, Jane! Help me to change your baby brother’s nappy.” My mother, Kathy yelled. I wondered I could not stay at home. I wouldn’t spend my whole holiday helping mother to take care of Sam (my baby brother). He was so noisy and naughty. I went to my room and shut my door.

I woke up so early in the morning. I was wondering where I would like to go, Mary (My younger sister) came in. “Hello! Today, I will go swimming with Lily! I’m so eager!” “Em… Can you ask Lily if she can go with me?” I asked nervously. “Why? Your best friend, Sue, will not go with you?” Mary sounded amazingly. “Not..nothing. Can you go with me?” I was so upset now. “You can’t swim! It won’t be a good place for you to go. Stay at home and help Mum!” Mary was very impolite to me. “Help Mum? If you are me, you will say no surely. If I can’t swim, I can build sand castle or do something else!” I was a bit wrathful. “Sorry! Lily would not be cheerful to see you.” Mary said. “OK! You go with your foolish friend!” I was now so unhappy.

I knew no one would go with me. I could only read books in my room. I hoped I did not argue with Sue.

23rd April, 2011

I was so sorrowful and dejected today. Mary teased me that I could not find a person to play with. I took a short walk in the park.

“Hi! Why don’t you play with Sue?” I looked at the person who said something to me. He was John, a boy in my class. He was smiling at me. “Hi! You say you’re going to visit Mr. Lee. Can you go with me?” “Sure then! I’m finding a person to go with me!”

I was very glad to meet Mr. Lee again. Mr. Lee was pleasing and thoughtful. Everyone in the forest liked him. However, fewer people liked talking with him. He was not a funny man, I agreed. But he was a friendly man! When I visited him all the time, he gave me a lot of cakes and sandwiches.

Mr. Lee lived in a tree’s hole. I must walk a long time to get to the tree. I told John we should walk straight on the path. He was forgetful and he forgot the way all the time.

An hour later, we arrived the tall oak which had Mr. Lee’s name on it. I knocked on the door politely. “Hello, Mr. Lee!” John shouted. “Hi! Come in!” John and I opened the door. We saw Mr. Lee sitting in the sofa. “Hey! What a good afternoon! Come and drink some tea.” I sat down near Mr. Lee. He took out a teapot and poured some tea for us. “What a sunny day! Let’s talk about some history!” Mr. Lee said cheerfully. “History is good! However, we want to watch TV in your house.” John said. Mr. Lee switched on the television. It was a programme about a ship in the sea. “Hey! Do you know I was a sailor before? The world in the sea is wonderful. You can’t think about it! It’s so deep and so big!” Mr. Lee started saying about his trip in the ocean. “He is such a vapid old man. “ John said to me quietly. “I agree, but he is an enjoyable person.” I said. “Look! There is a shark! Wow!” Mr. Lee cried. Suddenly, the shark swam over the TV and came into Mr. Lee’s sitting room. “Ahhhhhhh! What is coming?” I shouted as loudly as I could. The shark swam across the door and left Mr. Lee’s house. “Stop! Don’t go to Mrs. Ho’s house! She hates animals.” Mr. Lee shouted at the shark. John chased after the shark. Mrs. Ho was his grandmother. She was a grumpy old woman.

The shark was so fast and it swam through houses of the forest. Lots of people came chasing it. However, the shark was just too speedy. Mrs. Ho was screaming in her house but no one noticed her. They kept running after the shark. “Stop! Stop! Stop!” All the people bawled. It was so noisy! “Help! It takes my handbag!” An old woman kept crying. “It eats my table!” “It drinks all of the water in my house!” Many people exclaimed in anger. The shark went through the forest and started swimming in the city. “No!” Hundreds of policemen shoot on the huge shark. However, it did not hurt the shark.

It was a horrible time. People in the country were howling and screaming. Policemen were shooting on the sky. John and Mr. Lee disappeared. I did not know where they were. All of a sudden, people ran to different places. “What’s wrong?” I asked the young man near me. “Don…don’t you know th… the shark is eating peo…people around it. Look! It’s COMING!” After saying those words, he disappeared. I saw the shark used its tail to catch people on the road and put them into his mouth. “My mother DIED!” A five-year-old child was crying on the way. Then, she was eaten by the shark.

The shark was getting near me! I did not realize what was happening. Then, the shark used its tail to catch me and put me near its mouth. It opened its mouth and I was about to …

“Wake up! Do you want to go swimming with me?” My younger sister, Mary was asking me. “A shark is coming!”I yelled at Mary. “What are you saying? There is no shark in the swimming pool.” Mary felt puzzled. “I see a shark on the road! It is eating people. When it almost eats me, I come to my bed!” I shouted. “I don’t understand your saying.” “A shark was in Mr. Lee’s TV. Then it came out! It swam across the country and stole people’s things! It ate people too. The shark caught me and it put me near its mouth! Then, I was sleeping in my bed!” “I don’t want to hear your silly dreams. DO YOU WANT TO GO SWIMMING WITH ME?” Mary was as angry as a lion. “Go swimming? That’s a great idea. But…” I said. “There are no sharks in a SWIMMING POOL!” Mary was angry. I asked, “I’m not saying about sharks. Do you remember I can’t swim?” “I can teach you! If you don’t go with me, we have to stay home. My friend is sick and she cannot go there.” Mary told me. “Let us stay at home. We can play card games.”I said.

I took out a copy of cards and we started playing. We did not stop until Mum told us to eat dinner.

We spent the whole Easter holiday to read books and play card games at home. Although we did not go out, we were happy. And at last, I asked Mr. Lee about the shark by using the telephone. He said it was just a scary dream. I believed him but I would not forget this terrible but funny dream.
