An Unforgettable Experience

To be with soldiers and horses for even just a day was amazing!

It happened when I joined my family for a summer trip to Xian. For whatever reason my parents chose this province in China was a big puzzle to me. The journey from the hotel to our destination took about one hour. It was a long trip. I needed to stretch my aching legs as soon as the bus stopped at the station. This I did. Getting off the bus, however, I saw the entrance of an unusual building. I could not believe we travelled that far just to be in a museum! My face fell. My parents seemed to enjoy my reaction. Then, we entered the building. What welcomed me was beyond my wildest imagination.

Bing Ma Yong! Wow! The Terracotta Warriors and Horses! Yes. They’re underground. There stood astonishing thousands of life-size, reddish-brown clay soldiers, horses, chariots and weapons. The army and horses were in battle positions. They seemed to be guarding someone so important. I heard somebody said that these amazing warriors with different facial looks were guarding the tomb of an emperor. But where was the emperor’s tomb? The whole museum was only for the warriors and horses. That’s huge!

To capture the unforgettable experience, I posed for several photos with the astonishing soldiers and horses in the background.
